Parish Council is the first tier of local government and the one closest to you. Parish Council Members are elected at local level and from amongst the residents of the Parish. We live alongside you and that is why the things that matter to you are things that matter to us. We are neighbours and residents and we care about local issues and serve to make our parish a better place to live. Parish Councillors are volunteers who give their time, skills and energy in effort to improve the area and serve the community. We strive to be proactive, listen to residents and do what lies within the Parish Council powers to improve local issues.
Orleton Parish Council was established by the Act of Parliament of 1894 and has a rich history. The first meeting of the Parish Council was held on 3rd January 1895. Explore this website to read more about it and the Council’s activities today.
Orleton is a small village and civil parish in rural North Herefordshire and lies right on the border with Shropshire. Situated midway between Leominster (Herefordshire) and Ludlow (Salop), the village is most famous for its links to Adam Orleton, the Bishop of Hereford, Worcester and, later, Winchester during the troubled reign of King Edward II, and strong supporter of Roger Mortimer. Orleton Parish covers an area of 1,054 hectares and at the time of last Census in 2021 our population was 857 inhabitants. The Parish is part of the Bircher Ward of Herefordshire County Council.
