Orleton Parish Council – What Are We Doing
After almost 12 months as Chairman David Lane has stepped down. He’s had a very busy time, not only carrying out the tasks as chairman, but also having to carry out the role of Parish Clerk until the appointment of Olena Barrett earlier this year. Colin Mitchell is the new Chairman. It’s only fitting therefore to place on record the Council’s thanks to David, for all the hard work and professionalism in his time as chair.
Speeding at the Maidenhead junction
West Mercia Police carried out speed checks at this location in May but only detected three speeding vehicles. Despite this they have accepted that further enforcement action is necessary and have agreed to put in place further speed checks in the coming weeks.
Renewed warning signage on the approach to Orleton school
Following Cllr Bishop meeting with the school headmaster we have raised the issue of inadequate signage with Herefordshire Council and with the support of County Cllr Hurcomb new signage was installed in early August.
Footpaths
Thank you to those members of the public who have volunteered to assist Martin Bradford in his work as parish footpaths officer, maintaining paths, styles and signposts. These all contribute to the experience of both local walkers and to visitors to the village who contribute to the economy of the village.
As part of this work a new Kissing Gate has been installed by Martin and David Lane in the grounds of St Georges Church with the assistance of Mike Goodwin, Duncan Green and John Bridges from the Ramblers Association. These gates avoid the need to climb styles and encourage those with more limited mobility to enjoy the countryside. Martin is hoping to increase the use of these gates as older styles are replaced and the parish council will be supporting him in this work. Thank you also to Jim Apperley for his assistance in making this work possible.
Kings Road
Cllr Bishop and the former Chairman David Lane met with the new Locality Steward from Balfour Beatty in July to discuss the awful state of Kings Road/Kitchen Hill Road, walking the length and also examining the highway drainage issues around Brook Cottage. Natasha Jackson has agreed to report back on the status of this road within the county highway maintenance plan.
Green Lane Drainage
Cllr Lane has also raised the failure of Balfour Beatty to repair the collapsed highway drain under the B4361 at the bottom of Green Lane, despite repeated reports made by residents, the Lengthsman and the parish council. We have been promised that we will be provided with an explanation for this delay and an update on proposals to address the issue.
