It is with some excitement that we can announce that, Orleton has now secured two significant flood management schemes in partnership with Balfour Beatty and the flood risk management team in Hereford.
Firstly, after many months of talks and ironing out the details, Orleton has been chosen to pilot a new, and unique nationwide, community flood management scheme. This pilot scheme will use local volunteers to deploy road closure barriers and signage on behalf of Herefordshire Council during flooding in Millbrook Way.
Secondly – a flood risk Management programme for Orleton, Brimfield and Little Hereford will be rolled out over the next few weeks benefitting five properties in Orleton most at risk of flooding.
The scheme to fit flood resilience measures in Millbrook Way was confirmed at a meeting between members of the parish council and Herefordshire Council last night.
It is also worth noting that Orleton has very recently been added to the Flood Warning Alerts service run by the Environment Agency. You can now sign up to receive Flood Alerts here.
Our thanks go out to Jenny Allen – Flood Group Liaison Officer at Balfour Beatty and Steve Hodges Head of Flood Risk Management for their work on these projects.
